Adam can induce feelings of belief in others, either in situations or what someone or himself says, Gabriel wouldn't have second best kept in his coven as a high ranked member, his gift is potent enough to evade Maggie's Lie detection and even Charles' sensation to see lies

Adam's power would be rendered impotent to mental shields as it is a mental ability. Edward Cullen could easily see through his lies by reading his mind
